HILLSBORO — What a field for the girls’ division of next week’s Hillsboro Trojan Classic.

The top six teams were a combined 43-1 at the time the pairings were made.

The Hesston girls, ranked No. 1 in Class 3A with an 8-0 record after Thursday’s win over Halstead, are only the No. 3 seed as there are five undefeated teams and a sixth has just one loss.

Hesston will play 7-1 Goodland at 3 p.m. Tuesday. If the Swathers win, they more than likely play at 6 p.m. Thursday against No. 2 seed and defending Class 4A state champion Wamego, which has been placed behind Hillsboro because the Trojans are 8-0 and the Red Raiders are 7-0. Wamego plays 2-5 Thomas More Prep at 3 p.m. Monday.

On the other side of the bracket, Hillsboro — which is ranked No. 1 in Class 2A — plays 2-6 Republic County at 7:30 p.m. Tuesday. 7-0 Riley County and 7-0 Holcomb, which are the Nos. 4 and 5 seeds, play at 6 p.m. Monday to complete the field.

The winners bracket semifinals are 6:00 and 7:30 on Thursday, with the loser bracket semifinals at 3 and 4:30 p.m. Friday.

• HESSTON BOYS TOP SEED — On the boys’ side, Hesston is without question the top seed.

The Swathers, now 8-0, play 2-5 Riley County at 7:30 p.m. Monday. A win and they would play the winner of Tuesday’s 4:30 p.m. game that matches Wamego (4-3) against Republic County (4-4).

Other first-round games are 7-1 Hillsboro against 3-5 Goodland (6 p.m. Tuesday) and 6-1 Holcomb against 3-4 Thomas More Prep (4:30 p.m. Monday).

Winners bracket semifinals are 6 and 7:30 p.m. Friday, while losers bracket semifinals are 3 and 4:30 p.m. Thursday.

Saturday’s action has a 1 p.m. start. The girls’ championship game is set for 5:45 p.m., with the boys’ first-place game at 7:30.
