NEWTON — If you can medal at the Newton Tournament of Champions, you can medal in any other high-caliber tournament.
McPherson High’s Austin Eldredge was the only Bullpup to come away with a placing Saturday at the Newton TOC, as he continues to stamp himself as one of the state’s top 106-pounders.
Eldredge finished the tournament going 4-2, which gave him a fifth-place standing.
MHS coach Doug Kretzer took only his experienced wrestlers to this prestigious event. Grand Island, Neb., was the team champion, handily outlasting Manhattan 183-138 for the title. Garden City (137 1/2), Arkansas City (127) and Mill Valley (126) completed the top five. The Bullpups scored 31 1/2 points.
