The McPherson County Republican Party is hosting the meeting of Republican officers in the 35th District on January 30th that will select the replacement for State Senator Jay Emler. 73rd District  State Representative Clark Shultz is among those interested in replacing Emler until a special election can be held in the fall of 2014. Emler's replacement will serve until January 2015.

According to an email received by Mid Kansas Online, there will also be a meeting of McPherson County Republicans following the 35th District meeting on the 30th, as Lori Shultz and Cheryl Stieben are stepping down from their leadership positions.  The county party is recommending Bev Hunter as Treasurer and Kristin Boyer as Secretary with Marge Arnold moving up to Vice Chair, but nominations will be taken that evening.

If Clark Shultz gets elected to Emler's Senate seat or continues a successful run for State Insurance Commissioner in 2014, he will then need to resign his Representative seat. If needed, another meeting of 73rd District Republicans will be held in mid-February to fill the house seat currently held by Shultz. If another is appointed to replace Emler, Shultz will remain in his House seat for now.
