McPherson College’s basketball teams are hoping for a repeat performance against Bethel Saturday night when they begin the second round of KCAC play in North Newton.

The women start the action at 5 p.m., with the men to follow at 7.

The Mac women and Bethel are tied for sixth place in the KCAC at 3-6, but the Bulldogs currently hold the tiebreaker because of a 70-46 rout over the Threshers at the Sport Center that began conference play. It may have been the Bulldogs’ best performance of the year in a victory.

The Bulldogs are still looking for their first win since the Christmas break. They were 7-6 before the holiday, but have lost eight straight. They are coming off a terrific performance Wednesday in a 73-67 loss to first-place and nationally ranked Southwestern, one that coach Gordon Reimer labeled as “the best of the year.”

The Mac men drilled Bethel 92-54 in the first matchup and the Threshers are still looking for their first win of the season. They have lost 18 in a row and were whipsawed 112-77 by Bethany on Wednesday as Ibin IbnIdris went off for a school-record 46 points.

Bethel did nearly defeat Southwestern, losing 69-66. The Threshers also played Baker within four points, 54-50, so they’re capable of giving the Bulldogs a game if they don’t have proper focus.

A win for the Mac men would even their overall record at 11-11.
