LINDSBORG — Jasmine Stewart of Olathe has signed a letter of intent to play softball at Bethany College for the 2014-2015 academic year.

Stewart comes to Bethany from Highland Community College, where she earned NFCA Scholar Athlete honors. She was a member of the 2013 Highland team that finished the season ranked No. 13 in the country and made its fourth straight NJCAA National Tournament appearance. Stewart recorded a 2.53 earned run average in 55.1 innings, tallying 6.33 strikeouts per game.

Prior to her time at Highland, Stewart attended Olathe North High School, where she was a pitcher on the softball team 2011 and 2012.

"We are very excited and fortunate for the addition of Jasmine Stewart to our softball family," Bethany coach Janice Esses said. "Jasmine exemplifies the meaning of student-athlete. She is very focused and determined to achieve success. She will bring experience and a winning mentality to our program. Jasmine is a left-handed pitcher with great movement and consistency. We feel she will be able to help raise the standards of our program. She has done a great job at Highland, a team that has made four straight national tournament appearances and has been consistently nationally ranked. We are extremely excited for Jasmine to be a Swede."

Stewart is the daughter of Melissa Ferguson. She has a 3.34 grade point average and plans to major in pre-physical therapy.
