Junior Eagles lose to Wichita Classical

WICHITA — Elyria Christian Junior High’s basketball teams wrapped up regular-season play Monday as they prepared for the upcoming Wheat State League Tournament that starts on Thursday at Centre High School.

The Junior Eagle boys lost 47-38 to Wichita Classical despite 14 points by Tyler Thiessen and 10 more by Aidan Fields. Classical exploded in the first quarter for 22 points, but then cooled off to lead only 26-22 at the break. However, it rebooted the offense in the third quarter.

Thiessen and Fields also were backboard terrors with 11 and 10 rebounds, respectively.

Elyria finished the regular season 9-3.

The girls lost 39-31 and are 2-10. Bailey Unruh was the top scorer, but her point total was not available.
