2014 hasn’t been kind so far to the McPherson College women.

After a 7-6 record during the 2013 portion of the schedule, the Bulldogs are 0-9 since the break, even though they’ve been close in several games.

They have an excellent chance to end that slide here Wednesday when they host Saint Mary, which is 2-8 in the KCAC and in ninth place. The Bulldogs won the first meeting between the teams handily in Leavenworth, 59-44.

Game time is 6 p.m. at the Sport Center, with 96.7 KBBE-FM coverage starting at 5:45. A men’s game completes the night at 8 p.m.

The Mac women are just a game ahead of the Spires in the KCAC standings at 3-7. Mac started conference play 3-0, but has lost its last seven, including games against Bethany and Bethel where it had healthy second-half leads.

Mac, 7-15 overall, had been picked to finish in last in the KCAC.

The Mac men have been reduced to the role of spoiler, as they are 4-6 in the KCAC, four games back of tri-leaders Bethany, Friends and Sterling.

Saint Mary needs this game desperately as it’s 7-3 in the KCAC and hot on the heels of the KCAC leaders. It defeated the Bulldogs 93-80 in the first meeting after the game had been tied with 10 minutes to go.

The Bulldogs are 11-11 overall and seeking a three-game winning streak as they knocked off Southwestern and Bethel last week.
