GREAT BEND — The McPherson seventh-grade A-girls had to be wondering what was going on.
The Bullpups scored a grand total of one point Tuesday in the first quarter against Great Bend.
But after that, the Bullpups settled down for a 29-16 victory to finish a tremendous season at 14-2.
“Missed shots and turnovers led to another slow start, but then we switched to man-to-man defense and played more aggressive in the second quarter and beyond,” MMS coach Jacque Gehrt said. “The girls kept fighting and we were able to end our season with a victory. I am so proud of what the A- and B-teams accomplished this season. It was a fun group of girls to coach and it will be exciting to see what they do next year.”
Claire Yowell led MMS with 11 points, with Hannah Hageman next with five.
The B-team also closed successfully, 42-16. That gave the Bullpups a 15-1 record.
“I could not be more proud of how the girls finished their season out tonight by playing as a team and until the last second. I look forward to watching this group of young ladies advance through their future basketball seasons,” MMS coach Jennifer Love said.
Alaina Diggs was raining 3s, as she made four on her way to a team-high 16 points. Katelyn Beam added 14.
