LINDSBORG  — It was a battle of nationally ranked wrestling teams Tuesday, as No. 16 Bethany College nipped No. 11 York College 19-18 in as tight a match as you could have.

"Though we came away with a win against a quality team, thanks in part to our depth, we didn't perform at the level we need to in order to be where we want to be at the end of the season," Bethany assistant coach Cody Garcia said. "Consistency is a trait of a great team and we are still striving to get there. The guys have wrestled well over the last month and I believe they are made of the right stuff and will respond with a solid performance next Wednesday against in-state rival Baker."

Only one match ended via the pinfall, as there was little difference in the teams.

Results are as follows:

125: Double Forfeit

133: Ty Kolterman lost by pin to Marcus Banducci. (York 6-0)

141:  Dane Edwards won by forfeit. (Tie 6-6)

149: Courtney Strauss won by decision over Brian Magno. (Bethany 9-6)

157:  Jonathan Blackwell won by forfeit. (Bethany 15-6)

165:  Jordon Ward lost by decision to Aaron Lopez. (Bethany 15-9)

174:  Zach Eaton won by major decision over Joe Madison. (Bethany 19-9)

184:  Trevor Whittaker lost by decision to Quentin Becker. (Bethany 19-12)

197:  Taylor Baird lost in tie breaker 1 to Logan Paul Eickhoff. (Bethany 19-15)

285:  Zach Anderson lost by decision to Saia Lotulelei. (Bethany 19-18)

The Swedes return to action Wednesday, February 5 at home in the Baker Dual at 7 P.M. The night will also be the Wrestling teams Senior Night.
