When McPherson College’s men and Sterling met last month at the Sport Center, the Bulldogs lost despite being up by five points with 12 seconds left to play.

Sterling somehow, some way was able to get the game into overtime before emerging with an 81-77 victory, a game that probably kick-started a Bulldog slide that included six losses in their first eight KCAC games.

The rematch is Saturday in Sterling and the Bulldogs come in having strung together three straight KCAC wins to climb to 5-6, 12-11 overall.

Game time is 7 p.m., with the women at 5.

Sterling is in a must-win situation as it’s tied for the KCAC lead with Bethany and Friends at 9-2.

This is a tough stretch for Mac, which upset fourth-place Saint Mary at home on Wednesday and after playing Sterling, it goes to Friends next Thursday.

In the women’s game, the Bulldogs would love to duplicate their first game against Sterling as they were a 76-63 winner, which at the time moved them to 3-0 and a share of the KCAC lead.

Mac then lost its next seven KCAC games before ending that slide Wednesday with a 64-45 victory over Saint Mary. The Bulldogs are 8-15 overall.

Like Mac, Sterling is 4-7 in the KCAC in what is coach Lonnie Kruse’s victory tour as he has announced his retirement, with K.C. Bassett his successor. The Warriors were a 15-point winner over Bethel on Wednesday.
