The fifth-place game of the 19th annual Mid America Classic Saturday afternoon was much like the seventh-place game.

No contest.

Olathe East jumped on Wichita Northwest from the outset, leading 16-9 after the first quarter, and the Hawks went on for a 51-28 victory to earn the consolation bracket medals.

East had a very good first half in which it made 10 of 19 shots and also forced Wichita Northwest into 16 turnovers. The game’s flow didn’t change much after intermission.

Valencia Hinton-Scott and Molly Taitt led the Hawks with 11 points apiece. They turned it over only 12 times, while forcing 27 Grizzlie mechanical errors.

Cassie Pauls was held to nine points after two outstanding games, but it was still good enough to lead Northwest.

Olathe East heads home with a 7-6 record, while Northwest is now 6-7,
