Elyria Christian Junior High’s boys basketball team completed an 11-4 season Saturday by edging Little River 38-34 for third place in the Wheat State League Tournament.
The Junior Eagles had lost earlier in the day to Centre in the semifinals, 35-23.
In that game, Tyler Thiessen scored 11 points and dominated the glass for 16 rebounds to lead Elyria. Aidan Fields added six points and eight rebounds.
Against Little River, the Junior Eagles made a spirited comeback, keyed by a 14-4 third-quarter advantage.
Fields was immense with 16 points and seven rebounds. Thiessen was held to seven points, but ripped down 15 rebounds. Another key contribution was nine points by Dylan St. Peter in perhaps his best game of the year.
