Results of midseason basketball tournaments have caused some shuffling of current seedings for the McPherson Class 4A Division I Sub-State Tournament that will be held following the completion of the regular season at the Roundhouse.
On the girls’ side, McPherson High is closing the gap on Buhler for the top seed. The Crusaders lost twice over the weekend in the Haven Classic — to Moundridge and Haven — to fall to 8-4.
The MHS girls are now 8-5 after a 2-4 start. The Bullpups and Crusaders still have to meet Feb. 21 in Buhler in the next-to-last game of the regular season.
Don’t count out Abilene, which is 7-5. Its next game, though, is at No. 1-ranked Wamego and it also has to play the Red Raiders on Feb. 14. Ulysses, at this point, would appear to be the No. 4 seed as it’s 5-9.
The MHS boys would appear to have a stranglehold on the top spot at 11-1, with Abilene (8-4) the only team capable of catching the Bullpups, who would have go on quite a slide.
Ulysses (6-8) has moved ahead of Buhler (5-7) for the No. 3 seed, which means if the tournament started today, MHS and Buhler would meet for a fourth time in the opening round.
