As of 8:30 pm Wednesday evening, AAA received a total of 557 calls for service, making the total since Tuesday’s snow storm began right at 850 calls for assistance, since 6 am Tuesday morning.

Topeka accounted for 157 of Wednesday's calls, while 149 have come from the Wichita area, with 49 in Lawrence.   Outside of those three communities, AAA Kansas has received 202 calls outside of those three communities in Kansas.

Call volume this winter is up 9 percent over last winter-to-date.

About 30-35 percent of calls have been for winch-outs (vehicles stuck in the snow requiring extrication).  About 30 percent have required towing.  An increasing percentage throughout the day for jump starts has resulted in about 30 percent of all calls for jump starts with this cold weather, the rest for frozen locks or lockouts, tire changes or fuel delivery.
