SV wrestlers take 1st at Circle

TOWANDA — Smoky Valley’s wrestling team, buoyed by three champions and 10 placers overall, took first place this past weekend in the Circle Invitational.

The Vikings received championship performances from Austin Lustfield at 106, Austin Cook at 170 and Brix Brickey at 285.

Lustfield defeated Fredonia’s Trevor Haun by a fall in the finals. Cook also won by a fall in his title match over Logan Lindbloom of Buhler. Brickey was an 8-4 winner in the finals over Jaden Helms of Chaparral. 

Strong support came from second-place finishers Brandon Archuleta at 132, Spencer Bird at 182 and Ethan Loder at 195. Archuleta lost 8-2 in the finals to Casey Garner of Bluestem. Bird was outlasted in the title match 6-3 by Darick Jones of Clearwater. Loder was nipped 3-2 by Mike Lopez of Andover for the gold.

Caleb Sare was third at 120, while sixths were recorded by Nick Karber at 113, Alan Wampler at 160 and Nils Peterson at 220.
