DALLAS — About the only way to describe the start to the baseball season for the Central Christian College Tigers is “sensational.”

The Tigers moved their record to 4-1 on Saturday with a sweep of Dallas Christian in a pair of one-run games, 4-3 and 3-2.

In the opener, CCC scored three runs in the first inning, then was blanked until the seventh when it scored the game-winner. The only Dallas Christian runs came in the sixth, as Tiger pitcher Robert Hawkins was terrific through the first five innings before wobbling. But he pitched the seventh to pick up the win, allowing just four hits and fanning eight, while walking only three.

The top three Tigers in the order — Masaski Yamashita, Martin Guevara and Zane Howard — all had two hits and Howard had two RBIs. Clayton Lacher also had two hits, as the Tigers rapped out 10 in the game.

It was more good pitching for the Tigers in the nightcap, as Howard was nails. He went seven innings, scattering seven hits, while walking three and fanning two. CCC scored a pair of runs in the third inning and another in the fourth to lead 3-0 before Dallas Christian scored its only runs in the sixth.

Drew Scheisser was the big stick for the Tigers with two hits and two RBIs. He cranked a double for the only CCC extra-base hit.

The Tigers will find out how good they really are this weekend when they play a single game Friday at No. 11-ranked Oklahoma Baptist, then the teams hook up for a pair on Saturday.
