Bethany wrestlers dominate Baker

LINDSBORG —  Bethany College’s 15th-ranked wrestling team breezed to a 30-9 victory over 18th-ranked Baker during Wednesday’s Senior Night matchup of national powers.

"This was a solid performance tonight and a special way to finish off our regular season in front of a great home crowd," Bethany assistant coach Cody Garcia said. "This team should be confident going forward with the work they have put in this year."

Results for the dual are as follows:

125: Freshman Quinton Harrison lost by decision to Alan Callahan (Baker 3-0)

133: Freshman James Lohman lost by major decision to AJ Gassman. (Baker 7-0)

141: Junior Steven Ortiz won by forfeit. (Baker 7-6)

149: Junior Colby Crank won by decision over Connor Middleton. (Bethany 9-7)

157: Freshman Jonathan Blackwell won by decision. (Bethany 12-7)

165: Junior Jordon Ward won by decision over Jakob Price. (Bethany15-7)

174: Junior Matt Atwood lost by decision to Bryant Guillen. (Bethany 15-10)

184: Freshman Spencer Wilson won by forfeit. (Bethany 21-10)

197: Junior Taylor Baird won by pin over Mike Faison. (Bethany 27-10)

285: Sophomore Tyler Smith won by decision over Beau Bennett. (Bethany 30-9)

There was also a point deducted from Baker University for unsportsmanlike conduct on the coaching staff.

The Swedes will be back in action Feb. 22 as they will travel to Missouri Valley for the NAIA Central Group Qualifier.
