It’s expected to be a big night Saturday at the Sport Center.
McPherson College’s Samson Shivers is expected to break the school’s all-time scoring record when the Bulldogs host Ottawa.
Game time is 7 p.m., with the women’s game at 5. KBBE 96.7 FM coverage begins at 4:45.
Shivers enters the game with 1,998 career points, two shy of the even 2,000 scored by Kenny Romero.
“Since he arrived, Samson has always been a tremendous shooter,” Mac coach Tim Swartzendruber said. “Very streaky, but never lets a miss bother him. What people don't realize is how much he has improved in other areas of his game. He has become a very good defender and better ballhandler. He has learned to get points in other ways than just spotting up and shooting. Especially this year he has been better about shot faking and/or driving to basket and getting to free throw line.”
Shivers is coming off a 26-point game against Kansas Wesleyan on Thursday, which featured eight 3-pointers.
Mac is hoping to get back to the .500 mark for the season at 14-14. The Bulldogs are 6-9 in the KCAC.
Ottawa also is 6-9 in the KCAC and 11-14 overall.
In the women’s game, the Bulldogs have a playoff berth in sight as they are 4-11 in the KCAC for eighth place and 8-19 overall. Bethany and Saint Mary are both 2-13 and the top eight teams advance. Mac hosts Bethany on Thursday.
Ottawa may be the KCAC’s surprise team as it’s 10-5 in the conference and 14-11 overall. It has one of the conference’s top players in Amber Ramsey.
