WICHITA — McPherson High’s bowling team turned the AVCTL Championships into its own private showcase Friday.

The Bullpups totally dominated the league finale, as they won both the boys’ and girls’ titles, and also had both league medalists.

The girls, led by champion Crystal Nutter, had four of the top five finishers. The boys, led by champion Joel Morey, had four of the top eight performers.

“It was a great day at Seneca Lanes,” MHS coach Herb Halinski said. “Kinda got off to a rough start, but the engines kicked in and the kids took off in the second game. They did leave a lot on the table as the carry wasn't very good, but they made spares for the most part. I am proud of every one of the kids as they did an awesome job.”

The MHS girls totaled a 2,373, led by Nutter’s 638. Her monster 259 second game keyed her championship performance.

Mayce Nightingale (593) was third, Jasmine Wann (577) was fourth and Makenzie Benson (548) was fifth.

Morey had a huge day with a 690, with all of his games over 200, including a 246 and 232. Jacob Helmer careered, taking second with a 674, also with three games over 200, keyed by a 234. Austin Mitchell and Carl Frazier were fifth and eighth, respectively. MHS finished with a 2,586.

MHS competes Thursday at Salina in regional competition.
