MHS boys, Hesston teams ranked No. 1

Going into the final week of the regular season, the McPherson High boys are ranked No. 1 in Class 4A Division I by the Kansas Basketball Coaches Association.

The 17-1 Bullpups are ahead of Basehor-Linwood, Kansas City Piper, Baldwin, Independence, Coffeyville, Ottawa, Labette County, Augusta and Abilene.

The MHS girls, now 14-5, moved up a spot this week to No. 6, trailing season-long leader Wamego, Miege, Hayden, Paola and Andover Central. Fort Scott is No. 7, with Kansas City Piper, Coffeyville and Louisburg rounding it out.

Hesston continues to dominate Class 3A as both Swather teams are still No. 1.

The once-beaten Hesston girls lead Riley County, Holcomb, Cimarron, Cheney, Caney Valley, Cherryvale, Marysville, Nemaha Valley and Douglass.

The undefeated Swather boys headline their division, with Eurkea, Sabetha, Council Grove, Beloit, Nemaha Valley, Holcomb, Rock Creek, Humboldt and Wellsville giving chase.

The Moundridge girls have climbed to No. 4 in Class 2A, trailing only Jefferson County North, Central Plains and Sterling.

No other area teams are ranked this week.
