Sub-state basketball assignments for next week are now official as of this afternoon.
McPherson High will be hosting a Class 4A Division I sub-state March 6-8 at the Roundhouse.
Thursday’s girls’ games include Abilene (9-10) against Buhler (13-6) at 6 p.m., followed by MHS (15-5) against Ulysses (6-13) at 7:30. The championship game is set for 6 p.m. Saturday.
Friday’s boys’ semifinals pit Ulysses (6-13) against Abilene (13-6) at 6 p.m., with MHS (18-1) taking on Buhler (6-13) at 7:30. The championship game is 7:30 p.m. Saturday.
Smoky Valley’s teams travel to Concordia next week and both play the tourney host in a Class 4A Division II sub-state.
The Viking girls are 4-16 and Concordia is 12-7 and they play at 7:30 p.m. Thursday. The other semi matches Clay Center (6-14) against Chapman (5-15). The Smoky Valley boys (1-19) play Concordia (15-4) at 7:30 p.m. Friday. Clay Center (3-17) and Chapman (2-18) meet in the other semi.
Four area schools will be involved in the Berean 2A tourney, with the final two nights in Elbing. This is considered the toughest sub-state in 2A by most experts.
On the girls’ side, Canton-Galva (5-15) will host a play-in game at 1 p.m. this Saturday against Peabody (2-18). If the Eagles win, they play at Sterling (18-2) at 7 p.m. Monday.
Also Monday, Little River (15-5) hosts Hillsboro (15-5), Inman (7-13) is at Moundridge (18-2) and Remington (17-3) entertains Berean (13-7).
The semifinals are on Thursday at Elbing.
On the boys’ side Tuesday, Canton-Galva (6-14) plays at Moundridge (16-4), Inman (11-9) goes to Little River (16-4), Peabody (6-14) is at Hillsboro (17-3) and Berean (17-2) goes up against the winner of Saturday’s play-in game matching Remington (1-19) at Sterling (3-17).
The semifinals are on Friday. The two championship games are Saturday, the girls at 6:00 and the boys at 7:30.
The Hesston boys (19-0) begin their march toward a possible 3A state title by hosting Sedgwick (8-12) on Monday. If they win, they play the winner of Marion (12-8) and Halstead (11-9) in Thursday’s semifinals at Marion.
The bottom half of the bracket Monday pits Haven (9-10) at Sacred Heart (13-7) and Trinity Catholic (9-10) at Southeast of Saline (14-6).
On the girls’ side, Hesston (19-1) is the top seed and hosts Halstead (6-14) on Tuesday. Also on the Swathers’ side of the bracket are Trinity Catholic (6-14) and Marion (9-11). If the Swathers win, they play on Friday in Marion.
The bottom half of the bracket matches Haven (11-8) against Sedgwick (8-12), while Sacred Heart (7-13) goes up against Southeast of Saline (13-7).
In Class 1A Division II, Elyria Christian School will play at Barton County Community College in Great Bend, with Otis-Bison the host.
Elyria’s girls (10-9) received a first-round bye. They don’t play until Friday, with the time to be determined. They will play Otis-Bison (7-12).
The only actual game is Chase (5-14) against Central Christian (2-17). The winner plays Wilson (14-5) on Friday.
The ECS boys (0-19) play Chase (2-17) on Tuesday in Great Bend. If the Eagles win, they play Central Christian (12-7) on Thursday.
Otis-Bison (11-8) and Wilson (8-12) meet in the other semi.
