A McPherson man who was taken to a Wichita hospital following a rollover accident Wednesday night has been upgraded from critical to serious condition.

According to a report from the Kansas Highway Patrol, 61 year old Dr. Jerry Leopold of McPherson was traveling north bound on K-61 when he looked down for a second.

When Leopold looked back up he was approaching a slower moving vehicle. Leopold made an evasive maneuver and lost control. His 1999 Toyota 4 Runner rolled three times coming to rest on its top in the median.

The northbound lanes of K-61 were closed for about 40 minutes as the the Life Team helicopter was landed on the highway. Our thanks to Rod Zook from KWBW in Hutchinson for the update on Leopold's condition.
