C-G girls win play-in game

CANTON — Canton-Galva’s girls sped past Peabody 51-33 Saturday afternoon in a Class 2A sub-state play-in game.

The Eagles, now 6-15, play at Sterling tonight in first-round action. The Black Bears are 18-2 on the season and the No. 1 seed for the Berean Academy sub-state.

Erika Smith scored eight first-quarter points, including a pair of treys, to get the Eagles off and running, as they led 19-6. Peabody did make a run in the second quarter to whittle the margin to 28-20, but C-G gained its second wind and blew out to a 17-point lead after three quarters.

Cassidy Enns led the Eagles with 14 points and Smith scored 13. Lindsey Unruh gave C-G three players in double figures with 11.

Also tonight, the Moundridge girls are home against Inman, while Little River entertains Hillsboro. In boys’ action, undefeated and No. 1 Hesston begins postseason play hosting Sedgwick.
