PARK CITY — It’s a big night tonight at Hartman Arena as KCAC national tournament qualifiers will be determined.
On the women’s side, regular-season champion Southwestern is matched against Tabor at 6 p.m.
Southwestern already has qualified for nationals, but it’s trying to complete the rare double. Tabor needs to win to advance to nationals, because if it loses, Friends would go to Sioux City, Iowa, as the second qualifier by virtue of placing second during the regular season.
Tabor surprised Friends 56-53 in Saturday’s semifinals on the Falcons’ home court, while Southwestern was an 85-76 winner over Kansas Wesleyan.
On the men’s side, it will be Tabor against Sterling at 8 p.m.
Friends already has qualified for nationals by winning the regular-season title, but was upset 90-81 on Saturday by Tabor. Tonight’s winner thus earns the second berth. Sterling advanced to the finals with an 89-77 victory over Bethany on Saturday.
The men’s national tournament is in Point Lookout, Mo. McPherson College had been one of the KCAC’s representatives each of the last four years, which is a conference record.
