LINDSBORG — Bethany College senior guard Idris IbnIdris has earned the honor to play in the NAIA and NABC inaugural men's basketball All-Star event.
The rosters for the NAIA Division II All-Star team were announced on Thursday. The event will take place Saturday, March 22. There will be a 3-point and slam dunk contest at 12:30 p.m. and the All-Star game will be at 8 p.m. in Municipal Auditorium in Kansas City, Mo.
For the All-Star game, there will be 10 players from NAIA Division I competing against 10 players from NAIA Division II in two, 20-minute halves. For the dunk contest and 3-point contest, there will be four contestants, which can come from both divisions and may or may not be a part of the All-Star game. The contestants for the 3-point, dunk contest and Division I team will be announced March 11.
IbnIdris was second in the nation in total scoring (847) and points per game (27.323) topped only by fellow KCAC member Joe Mitchell of Friends. He was 11th in 3-point field goal percentage (45.8) and 31st for total field goal percentage (55.6). Mitchell also joins IbnIdris on the All-Star roster for Division II.
"We are pleased that Idris has been selected for the inaugural NAIA All-Star game,” Swede coach Clair Oleen said. “He is without question one of the very best players in the nation in the NAIA. He will represent Bethany College and the KCAC very well and in a humble, professional and mature way that we all have come to know and appreciate as the way of Idris."
