WICHITA — Robert Hawkins’ dazzling relief pitching sparked Central Christian College past KCAC member Friends in a single, nine-inning baseball game on Thursday, 6-4.
Hawkins entered the game in the fourth inning with the Tigers down 3-2. He allowed only two hits and one run in 5 1/3 innings, walking just one and fanning three.
The Tigers scored two runs in the sixth inning to take the lead, then added two in the ninth. Hawkins allowed his only run in the bottom of the ninth.
Central had the bats going with 11 hits, including three apiece by Martin Guevara and Drew Scheisser. Zane Howard added two hits and two RBIs. All 11 CCC hits were singles.
The victory improved Central to 11-8. It is scheduled to host Manhattan Christian today at Wall Park, with first pitch set for 12:30 p.m. The teams then play a pair Saturday in Manhattan. The opener starts at noon.
