WICHITA — After losing several games to the snowy weather, the McPherson College softball team got back on the diamond recently to split two games in the Friends Classic.

Mac outlasted Baker 6-5 before losing to national power Hastings College, 11-3.

The Bulldogs scored in a run in the seventh to win the opener. A four-run fourth inning was the impetus to the victory.

Ariel McGee and Whitney Miller had two hits apiece, while Cassandra Mereno drove in two runs. Mariah Wedel created havoc on the bases with a pair of steals.

Ciara Archer picked up the win, scattering 10 hits.

Hastings used back-to-back five-run innings to pull away from Mac in the second game. Jenna Kaiser crushed a three-run homer to account for the Bulldogs’ scoring. Wedel and McGee had two hits apiece and Mac had 10 overall, as it couldn’t up with the clutch hits that would have made it closer.

Kaiser took the loss.

Mac is now 2-5 on the year and hosts its annual classic this weekend, beginning on Friday.
