LINDSBORG — Bethany College senior Kelli Traffas has been named the KCAC Softball Player of the Week.
"Kelli is having a great start to her senior season,” Bethany coach Janice Esses said. "She has learned to not just swing for the fence, but to focus more on putting the ball in play. She has come up clutch several times this season with a base hit or a key RBI. We are excited for her to have the honor of Player of the Week, and we are also proud to have our third Player of the Week honor this season."
In five games for the Swedes, Traffas hit .647 and slugged 1.176. Traffas finished the week with 11 hits in 17 at bats, six RBIs, five runs, two home runs and three stolen bases. She also totaled 11 putouts and 13 assists for a .923 fielding percentage.
Traffas' highlights of the week included a 4-for-4 performance against MidAmerica Nazarene University, tallying one run and two RBIs. In addition, she went 3-for-4 with three RBIs against Hastings College.
She was named to the 2014 Preseason All-KCAC Team as well as 2013 first-team All-KCAC, 2013 preseason team, 2012 second-team All-KCAC and 2011 first-team All-KCAC.
This is the third week that a Swede softball player has earned Player of the Week honors. Senior Ashley Nicolich, Modesto, Calif., was named Player of the Week in Week Two, Feb. 17-23, and sophomore Ashley Montoya, Bay City, Texas, was named Player of the Week in Week One, Feb. 10-16.
Traffas is the daughter of Rory and Jacque Traffas. She is majoring in accounting and minoring in Math.
