OLATHE — McPherson College’s baseball team continued its difficult nonconference schedule Monday by coming away with a road split against MidAmerica Nazarene.
The Bulldogs, who had lost several games to the weather, played like a team that had been off for a long time in the opener, losing 6-0. Seth Davenport and Tom Potter had the only Bulldog hits. Taylor Werts actually pitched well, with one bad inning costing him as he gave up four runs in the fifth.
The Bulldogs gained the split when they rallied for a 5-4 victory. Down 3-0, Mac scored two runs in the fifth and three in the sixth.
Mac’s Austin Russell was 3 for 4, including a double. Zach Wilson added a pair of hits, while Dorian Shelton had a double and two RBIs.
Scott Hughes was solid on the hill to pick up the win, going five innings and permitting five hits and three earned runs. Josh Grant was nails in his two innings of relief to pick up the save.
Mac is now 3-10 and opens KCAC play Friday hosting Kansas Wesleyan at Light Capital Diamond. First pitch for the doubleheader is 5 p.m. The teams then meet again Saturday, with Salina the site. That action starts at 1 p.m.
