MOUNDRIDGE — York College’s baseball team swept Saturday’s doubleheader with Central Christian College to take three out of four games during the weekend series.
Central committed eight errors in two games to lose 9-5 and 7-3 as it was competitive with the highly touted Panthers except for the leaky defense.
In the first game, York scored eight of its runs in the middle three innings to get the day started off right.
Six different Tigers had one hit, with Martin Guevara’s double the only extra-base knock.
Braxton Lorenzini took the loss, though he pitched only two innings and fanned four while allowing just one run. Austin Penn threw three scoreless innings at the end of the game for Central.
Tiger ace pitcher Doug Gove threw four strong innings in the second game, but ran into trouble in the fifth when York scored four runs.
Alex Rodriguez had a triple and single, good for all three CCC RBIs. The Tigers managed just six hits overall.
The Tigers are now 1-3 in the KCAC and 15-17 overall with eight losses in their last nine games. They play Tuesday at Sterling in a single, nine-inning game with a 3 p.m. start.
