CONWAY, Ark. — Bethany College’s Seth Derr broke the school record in the javelin on Saturday during the UCA Relays.
Derr won with a throw of 58.86 meters. Not only was his mark good enough to win, but it meets the NAIA National A Standard and was a USATF Junior National Qualifying throw. The throw currently ranks him second in the country.
Derr's teammate, Seth White, finished in sixth place with a personal-best 43.64 meters. For the women's team, Miranda Burton also competed in the javelin event. She threw 35.94 meters to come in third.
"I am extremely proud of our javelin crew," Bethany coach Ken Ciolek said. "Working off of short approaches they all threw extremely well. I am excited to see their progressions as we move toward full approaches, and warmer weather.”
The Swedes will be in action again next weekend when they compete in the Enduro Classic-Friends University Invitational. The meet will take place Friday and Saturday.
