SAN DIEGO — The wonderful ride for Brad Underwood’s Stephen F. Austin Lumberjacks came to an end Sunday with a 77-60 loss to historic UCLA in the round of 32 of the NCAA Tournament.
Underwood, whose team was a 12th seed, had stunned No. 5 VCU on Friday. But UCLA was simply too big, strong and talented for the Lumberjacks, whose heart took them a long way.
UCLA led 42-32 at the half and gradually pulled away
The loss snapped a 29-game SFA winning streak. It finished the year 32-3 and placed Underwood, a McPherson native, in the finals for the National Coach of the Year award.
