LINDSBORG — Bethany College's Seth Derr, a freshman from Phillipsburg, was named today as the KCAC Men's Outdoor Field Athlete of the Week for his performance at the UCA Relays on March 22.
Derr placed first out of 13 competitors in javelin at the UCA Relays in Conway, Ark. His top throw was 58.26 meters, which has qualified him for the NAIA Nationals under the 'A' Standard. He also qualified for the USA Junior Nationals with the throw.
Derr's throw, in his first outdoor competition in college, was good enough to break the Bethany College record set by Matt Renick in 2000.
"Seth has worked extremely hard and has been extremely dedicated to his training and being a great leader. We are very proud of him and look forward to seeing his continued progression as the season moves forward," Bethany Coach Ken Ciolek said.
