ROSE HILL — There’s no doubt McPherson High’s softball team is going to score runs this season given it has much of its power-packed lineup returning from last year’s 16-7 team.

That was evident in its season opener Thursday when the Bullpups won 11-8 and 7-5 decisions over AVCTL Division III member Rose Hill.

The Kerr sisters had big days at the plate. Chelsey doubled and homered in the first game, then hit two triples and a single in the second game. Hannah Marshall also had a triple in the second game as the Bullpups showed some extra-base prowess.

Kiley Kerr had an inside-the-park homer in the first game.

Marissa Axelson was the winner in the first game with three whiffs in 4 1/3 innings, with Madison Hoffman working in relief for the save.

Hoffman was solid in the second game, picking up the win and fanning seven in six innings.

The MHS JVs lost both their games, 3-1 and 5-1.

MHS plays Monday at powerful Andale-Garden Plain.
