Softball Bulldogs in four-way tie at top

McPherson College’s softball team moved itself into KCAC title contention here Saturday with a sweep of Saint Mary.

By winning twice, the Bulldogs are now 3-1 in the KCAC and in a four-way tie for the top spot.

The Bulldogs won the first game 6-2, as Ciara Archer scattered eight hits and allowed only one earned run, while walking just two and fanning six.

Mac pounded out eight hits, including a 3-for-3 game with three runs scored by McKenna Deckard, who had a homer and scored three runs. Amanda Darrow also homered and singled, good for two RBIs. Emily Davis (two hits), Whitney Miller (two RBIs) and Cassandra Moreno (two hits) also contributed to the offensive feast.

In the nightcap, the Bulldogs received a homer from Ariel McGee, good for two RBIs, and Archer added two hits in a 5-3 win. Jenna Kaiser started, with Archer throwing the final 4 1/3 innings, allowing just one run.

The Bulldogs, 8-11 overall, host KCAC power and quad-leader Bethany on Wednesday. The first pitch will be thrown at 5 p.m. at Wall Park.
