LINDSBORG — The Bethany College women's tennis team fell 5-4 to Doane College Saturday afternoon.

The Swedes won the top two doubles matches. Kara Agamaite and Juliana Bezerra won No. 1 doubles 9-8, edging out the Tigers 7-4 in the tiebreaker. Mackenzi Choitz and Amelia Fabrizius won No. 2 doubles, 8-6. Michelle Rambo and Kittey Edwards lost in the No. 3 singles 9-8 after dropping the tiebreaker. 8-6.

Bezerra came back to win the No. 2 singles match. After losing the first set 6-3, she came back to win 6-4 and 11-9 in the tiebreaker. Choitz won the No. 3singles 6-2 and 6-4 in straight sets to round out the Swedes’ points.

"Our ladies lost a very tough 5-4 match versus Doane. It came down to the final pairing and was decided in the third set. Despite the loss, I was proud of how the women played," Bethany coach Vic Bateman said. "Having a match come down to the final set in the final match is what college tennis is all about. Both teams played hard."

Bethany falls to 3-4 with the loss. The Swedes will be in action next weekend, April 5, when they take on Kansas Wesleyan University and Hesston College.
