ANDALE — McPherson High’s baseball team couldn’t muster much offense against some strong Andale-Garden Plain pitching Monday, losing 7-1 and 4-2 decisions.
The Bullpups were playing without head coach Steve Williams, who has been suspended with pay pending an internal investigation by the USD 418 Board of Education.
Brodie Burney had two hits in the first game for MHS, with Caleb Schmidt taking the loss. Marcus McDaniel also pitched.
The Bullpups took an early 2-0 lead in the second game, but it was all Indians after that despite some strong pitching by Micah McCulley and Alex Ruxlow. McDaniel led MHS at the plate with two hits.
MHS split the JV games, the win being by a 6-5 score.
“We competed on the mound very well in both games,” MHS assistant coach Grant Myers said. “Defensive mistakes hurt us and offensively we need to get it going. In the second game, we hit the ball much better, but were a little unlucky as we hit a lot of ‘at ‘em’ balls. Overall there were a lot of good things happening, but we’ve got to eliminate the mental mistakes and become more consistent on offense.”
MHS plays Monday at Winfield.
