Central Christian College’s men’s tennis team dominated the doubles competition Wednesday against Hesston College to key a 7-2 victory.
The Tigers went 3-0 in those matches. Winning were Mark Gayer and Dylon Neal at No. 1 (8-2), Hugo Chavez and Rusty Blanchard at No. 2 (8-4), and Trey Johnson and Colby Blankenship at No. 3 (9-7).
CCC also won four singles matches — No. 1 Gayer (6-2, 6-3), No. 2 Neal (6-2, 6-0), No. 3 Chavez (6-2, 6-2) and No. 5 Blanchard (2-6, 6-1, 7-5).
The CCC women were defeated, 6-3. Winning for the Lady Tigers were Em Barnett at No. 4 singles (4-6, 3-4, injury default), Elyse Merritt at No. 5 singles (6-1, 6-2) and the No. 2 doubles team of Barnett and Shelbi Mathis (injury default).
"I was very pleased with the way we played today,” CCC coach Jeremy Nelson said. “The ladies didn't get the win, but I saw a vastly improved team out there on the courts today. For the men, it was great to have Trey in the lineup, it gave us a totally different look and doubles, and it gave us confidence. Hopefully we can continue our momentum as we play a tough Dallas Baptist team on Saturday."
The Tigers’ match with Dallas Baptist will actually be played in North Newton on the Bethel College courts.
