It was home run derby for the Bethany College softball team here Wednesday in the second game of a doubleheader with county rival McPherson College.
The Swedes hit five home runs in the nightcap, yet they were barely able to get past the Bulldogs 6-5 in a game shortened to six innings because of rain.
Going yard for the Swedes in the nightcap were Mariana Cerenio-Jordan, Stephanie Minder, Kelli Traffas, Jordan Blakesley and Jasmine Zaker.
Bethany scored three runs in the second inning and three in the fifth. The Bulldogs countered with two runs in the fourth and three in the fifth.
Mac actually outhit the Swedes 10-7, with Amanda Darrow going 3 for 3. Whitney Miller had two hits and RBIs. Also with two hits was Jenna Kaiser, while McKenna Deckard drove in two runs.
Montana Bailey was the winner, with Kaila Atkinson taking the loss.
It was all Minder for the Swedes in the 8-0 first game, as she was dazzling with a two-hit shutout, fanning nine. Kaiser took the loss.
Bethany scored all its eight runs in the first three innings.
The Swedes are now 5-1 in the KCAC and the Bulldogs are 3-3.
Mac is 8-13 overall and hosts Kansas Wesleyan on Saturday. Bethany is 24-17 overall and hosts Bethel on Saturday.
