GODDARD — The smallest school made the biggest noise Thursday in the Goddard Invitational Tennis Tournament.

McPherson High, a Class 4A school dwarfed by 6A schools, outlasted Goddard 19-16 for the team championship.

Other schools in the field were Derby (9), Maize (9), Goddard Eisenhower (8) and Wichita Northwest (3).

The Bullpups ruled the doubles divisions. Ryan and Peter Horton went 3-0 to win the No. 1 division, while Dylan Stos and Luke Williams were 3-0 at No. 2.

Gallagher Martin-Chavez, the surprise of the season so far, won the No. 2 singles division by winning his three matches. Newcomer Kento Aizawa was fifth at No. 1 singles, which was loaded. He was 1-2 on the day.

MHS coach Tyler Brown was pleased that his team could make it 2-for-2, as it won the McPherson Invitational earlier this week.
