MOUNDRIDGE — Central Christian College’s baseball team turned in one of its most complete efforts of the year Friday, sweeping an MCAC doubleheader with Waldorf College.
The Tigers blew by the Warriors 7-1 in the first game behind the pitching of Robert Hawkins. He went all nine innings and allowed just three hits. Even more impressive was the fact he walked none and fanned 11.
Central pounded out 10 hits, including three bunt singles by Matthew Fuksa. Alex Rodriguez had two hits and two RBIs, Masaki Yamashita had two hits and Daniel Padilla drove in two runs.
The Tigers broke the game open with four runs in the fourth.
Central dominated the second game, 11-2. It scored five runs in the second, then three runs in both the third and fourth.
Zane Howard were superb on the mound, allowing just three hits and walking none, while whiffing six.
Padilla continued his hot day by going 3 for 4 with three runs scored. Martin Guevara and Clayton Lacher drove in two runs apiece, while Fuksa, Lee Stoops and Nicholas Campos had two hits each. The Tigers totaled 13 in the game, 23 for the day.
Central is now 3-7 in the MCAC and continued its climb back toward the .500 mark at 18-22. The two teams meet again today at noon, with Light Capital Diamond the venue.
