JUNCTION CITY McPherson Highs Bri Cooks started the track and field season in spectacular fashion for the Bullpups Friday by breaking the school record in the shot put in the Junction City Invitational.
Cooks heaved the shot put 40-9 1/2 to win the event and etch her name into the MHS record book. Also earning a gold was Christina Wankum, who won the 3,200 (12:27.9).
Chris Stoppel had a good day on the boys side, taking second in the 100 and third in the 200, while running a leg on the second-place 4 x 100 relay team.
The Bullpup girls took third while the boys finished back in the pack. MHS coach Jace Pavlovich said the team held its own against mainly Class 6A and 5A competition.
