Tom Potter’s single in the bottom of the eighth inning scored Andrew Johnston with the game-winning run as McPherson College’s Bulldogs outlasted arch-rival Bethany 5-4 in the first game of a doubleheader Friday at Light Capital Diamond.

The Bulldogs scored two runs in the bottom of the seventh to force extra innings. Jose Nossa and Jordan Slaton had the big hits in the inning.

The Bulldogs pounded out 12 hits in the game, including four by Austin Russell and three by Zach Wilson. Potter had two hits and Nossa drove in two runs.

Taylor Werts went all eight innings to pick up the win.

Jordan Geiger had a home run for the Swedes. Aaron Huerta had two hits. Andrew Gomez took the loss.

Bethany bounced back to win the second game, 10-2. Sammuel Ramirez and James Compomizzi had three hits apiece and Huerta drove in four runs. Ace Dan Eck was his usual dominating self on the mound to pick up the win. He’s been the KCAC’s Pitcher of the Week each of the last two weeks.

Scott Hughes took the loss. Mac had seven hits, all singles, by seven different players.

The Bulldogs are now 7-7 in the KCAC and 12-20 overall, while Bethany is 6-8 in the conference and 14-21 overall. The teams are playing again today in Lindsborg, with first pitch set for 1 p.m.
