Central Christian College’s baseball team split with Waldorf College here Saturday, but still took the weekend series with three wins in four games.
The Tigers were one bad inning away from taking all four. They led the first game 3-0 going into the eighth inning when it all unraveled, as the Warriors scored five times. CCC tied the game in the bottom of the inning, but Waldorf scored a run in the ninth for the win.
The loss spoiled a fine game by CCC’s Alex Rodriguez, who homered and doubled, good for three RBIs. Clayton Lacher and Zane Howard added two hits apiece.
Alan Barker pitched seven shutout innings before wobbling in the eighth. Thomas Koop and Doug Gove came on after that.
Nicholas Campos gave CCC a shot in the arm in the second game, dealing a two-hitter in a 4-2 Tiger win. The Tigers scored two runs in both the first and fifth innings.
Lacher and Rodriguez had two hits apiece, while Drew Schiesser plated two runs with a double.
Campos allowed single unearned runs in the second and sixth innings. He walked only one and fanned three.
The Tigers are now 4-8 in the MCAC and 19-23 overall. They have a four-game set this upcoming weekend at Central Baptist, which is 7-5 in the MCAC and 23-13 overall.
