BC relays excel at Hutch

HUTCHINSON — The Bethany College track and field team competed Saturday in the Hutchinson Relays.

"The coaching staff was extremely proud and excited with today's performances," Bethany coach Ken Ciolek said. "School records fell in the men's 4 x 200 relay (1:32.66), women's 4 x 200 relay (1:55.20), women's sprint medley relay (2:07.50) and our women's throws squad broke the 4 x 100 'gravitational relay.'

 Miranda Burton took first place in the women's javelin throw (41.63m) with national A standard and a personal best. Kaitlin Davis also took first place (1.61m) and again narrowly missed a school record in the high jump. Jeremiah Gerardy took third in the 1,500 (4:05.32).


Men's 4 x 200 team, 1:32.66, third place: Seth Maples, Robyn Haynes, Ethan Linden  and Cale Green

Women's 4 x 200 team, 1:55.20, fourth place: Lauren Anderson, Kylee Martinez, Kyra Sprenger and Amy Bosley

Women's Sprint Medley Relay team, 2:07.50, sixth place: Lauren Anderson, Sierra Sherrod, Amy Bosley and Cally Albers

Gravitational 4 x100  team: Kara Shaheen, Miranda Burton and Kristi Ohlschwager

In the women's 100 dash, Bosley finished seventh at 12.96, followed by Anderson in eighth at 13.20, Sherrod in ninth at 13.62 and Sprenger in 10th at 14.04.

In the women's 800, Macey Dinkel placed seventh at 2:50.30, followed by Elizabeth Benoit in eighth at 2:50.45 and Araceli Aburto in ninth at 2:53.90.

The Swedes finished second in the women's 4 x 100 relay weight with a time of 59.82. In the 4 x 800 relay, Layne Gilliland, Martinez, Aburto, and Chelsea Stuewe finished third with a time of 10:53.20.

In addition to Davis' first place high jump mark of 1.61m (5-03.25), Afton Luttersfinished second in the pole vault at 2.28m (7-06.00).

In the shot put, Ohlschwager finished seventh at 9.37m (30-09.00), followed by Nordyke in eighth at 9.18m (30-01.75). Nordyke finished fifth in the discus throw at 30.44m (99-10), followed by Dinkel in sixth at 28.66m (94-00) and Ohlschwager in ninth at 25.92m (93-05).

Nordyke finished third in the hammer throw with a 36.80m mark (120-09), followed by Ohlschwager in fourth at 32.84m (107-09).

Burton's 41.63m (136-07) throw in the javelin crowned her champion, followed by Jara Shaheen in fifth at 30.20m (99-01).

On the men's side, Seth Maples finished 11th in the 100m dash with a time of 11.28 seconds. In the 400m, Haynes placed fourth at 51.08, followed by James Farris in 11th at 54.45, Zach Hartwell in 12th at 54.92, and Jordan Dahlke in 13th at 56.68.

Gerardy finished fifth in the 800 run with a time of 2:05.89 while William Nez placed 12th at 2:34.62.

The Swedes' 4 x 800 relay team of Farris, Dahlke, Hartwell and Cale Green placed third with a time of 8:37.98.

In the men's shot put, Cody Derr finished sixth at 12.53m (41-01.50). In the discus throw, he placed sixth at 35.69m (117-01), followed by Landon Hedstrom  in seventh at 35.04m (114-11). Derr finished eighth in the hammer throw at 37.37m  while Hedstrom took ninth at 35.58m (116-09) and Luis Marrero in 11th at 32.68m (107-03).

Seth White placed ninth in the javelin with a mark of 47.40m (155-06), followed by Ethan Linden in 16th at 36.40m (119-05).

The Swedes next compete in the Wichita State University Invitational on Friday.
