WINFIELD — McPherson High’s girls swimming team continued its season-long success Tuesday in the Winfield Invitational.

Claire Denk had a monster day by winning the 100 butterfly and taking second in the 50 freestyle. She also was on the 200 medley relay team with Amanda Starkel, Ellen Yowell and Katie Wurm that took third.

Wurm had her usual big day with a second in the 100 free and a fifth in the 200 individual medley, which was a new race for her.

Another highlight was that Shea Cook appears to be bouncing back from her knee injury as her marks are getting better, taking fourth in the 100 free and sixth in the 50 free.

MHS coach Bonnie Sue Fisher said a spotlight performer on the day was Kellsie Corrigan, as the freshman took sixth-place medals in the 100 butterfly and 100 backstroke as she seems to get better with every meet.

The Bullpups travel Thursday to Salina, which Fisher said is the closest thing they have to a home meet since MHS doesn’t have a pool conducive to host a meet.
