BUHLER — Cody Savage had a monster day Tuesday for the Canton-Galva track and field team in the Buhler Invitational, which was the Eagles’ season opener.
Savage won the shot (43-8), javelin (150-0) and 100 (11.6), while taking third in the 200. Behind Savage, the Eagles scored 102 points to take second to Haven, which scored 120.
The Eagles mined some serious gold. Lane Wiens won the 800 (2:27) and was second in the 1,600 (5:28).
C-G also won a pair of relays. The 4 x 800 team included Wiens, Travis Unruh, Trevor Unruh and Elvis Romaine (9:55) The 4 x 400 relay team included Wiens, the Unruhs and Zach Snow. Snow took second in both hurdle events and was third in the triple jump to complete a great day.
Trey Moddelmog was second in the high and long jumps and second in the 400 to contribute more chunks of points. Trevor Unruh had a third in the shot and Trey Wedel notched a third in the discus as most of the Eagles’ finishers were high quality.
The Eagle girls took fourth with 52 points. Anna Wesley led the way by nabbing the gold in the 400 (1:07.7) and she added a third in the 300. Krystal May and Julia Gormley had a 2-3 finish in the high jump.
Other Top 3s were by Lindsey Unruh (third in javelin), Kaylee Littrell (third in discus) and a pair of relay teams, which took second.
The 4 x 800 relay team consisted of Gormley, Littrell, Amanda Schmalzried and Abby Ballantyne. The 4 x 400 relay team consisted of Gormley, Littrell, Schmalzried and May.
