Hesston opens softball season going 0-2

PRATT — Hesston High’s softball team opened its season Tuesday by being swept by powerful Pratt.

The Greenbacks scored nine runs in the fifth inning to key a 14-7 first-game victory. Hesston had led 5-0 after 2 1/2 innings.

The Swathers were led by Darian Gonzalez, who had a double and single, while stealing three bases, part a 13-steal game for Hesston. Caroline Winslow and Abigail Shirley added two hits apiece.

MaKayla Holopirek took the loss.

Pratt captured the second game 6-1, scoring four times in the third and two more in the fifth.

The Swathers were held to three singles. Holopirek again took the loss.
