After being embarrassed in their first game here Tuesday against last-place Bethel, McPherson College’s softball team awoke to earn the split.
Mac lost the opener 9-0 to a Bethel team that had been winless in KCAC play. The Threshers ended an eight-game conference losing streak by scoring four runs in the second inning and capped the upset with a three-run seventh.
Mariah Wedel and Jenna Kaiser had the only hits for Mac in what was its worst game of the year as it booted the ball seven times.
Kaiser took the loss.
Normalcy returned in the second game as the Bulldogs did not commit an error in an easy 8-2 rout.
Kaila Atkinson picked up the win and did not permit a walk.
Ariel McGee smoked a homer and two singles to lead Mac. Wedel added two hits. McGee and Cassandra Moreno drove in two runs apiece.
The Bulldogs are now 4-6 in the KCAC and 9-16 overall. They are playing today at crosstown rival Central Christian College.
