Swather girl thinclads take title

HESSTON — The Hesston High girls track and field team piled up a passel of points — 152 to be exact — to win a CKTL Invitational on Tuesday.

The Swathers scored 152 points to easily defeat Berean, which scored 104. Other totals were Sterling (90), Hillsboro (12) and Burrton (10).

Winning individual gold for the Swathers were Cameron Denno in the pole vault (6-6), Veronica Ziegler in the triple jump (33-11 1/4), Caylee Richardson in the shot (31-9), Mikala Heddin in both the 1,600 (5:57.2) and 3,200 (12:22.9) and Ali Jost in the 200 (27.1).

Relay teams that won:

4 x 800 — Katelyn Hageman, Abigail Decker, Cami Richardson and Heddin, 5:57.2.

4 x 100  — Jost, Hannah Schmitt, Jessanna Nebel and Kylie Brenneman, 52.1.

4 x 400 — Same as the 4 x 100 in 4:25.8.

Meanwhile, the Swather boys were a half-point out of first, trailing Berean 118-117 1/2.

Ryan Schadler had a huge day by winning the 100 (11.0), 200 (22.2), 400 (52.0) and long jump (21-7).

Other winners for the Swathers were Daniel Fulghum in the triple jump (38-2), Luccas Schmucker in the 3,200 (11:33) and Jonathan Weber in the 800 (2:13.3).

Winning relays were:

4 x 800 — Schmucker, Weber, Cody Nuss and Austin Bollinger, 8:57.9.

4 x 400 relay — Fulghum, Bollinger, Cole Rostetter and Zach Esau.
